Georgian Revival Townhouse

GEORGIAN REVIVAL TOWNHOUSE

PROGRAM: Townhouse

STATUS: In Progress

SIZE: 5,000 SF

COMING SOON. Our client, a family of three, purchased a five-story Georgian Revival townhouse on East 91st Street and Park Avenue in New York City. We provided space planning and interior design. The project posed many challenges for our client, including the fact that there was nothing to save except the brick exterior wall, the central elliptical stair, and the floor plates. Also challenging was the narrow footprint of the house.

This was especially tricky on the ground floor where the client wanted to place the kitchen that would be the family’s primary hang-out space, connected to the backyard. We proposed a den/kitchen area in the back full-width zone while using the narrow space behind the stair for the working and storage parts of the kitchen that were less in need of being part of the living space. The dining space had to be on the second floor to take advantage of high ceilings on the parlor level, and so that it was adjacent to the living room. A dumbwaiter was installed. Bedrooms are on the third and fourth levels, while the fifth level is for a library and a guest bedroom/den.  Color plays a part throughout the house, in rooms, millwork, and furnishings, stone and ceramic tile floors and ceilings, and breathable natural clay paint softens the walls throughout. An ERV feeds the entire home with tempered filtered air from the outside to provide a healthy interior environment.
